Group colloquium: (Importance) Splitting (for) fault trees

When: July 26, 2018, 15:45-16:45

Where: HB 2A

Who: Carlos Esteban Budde

The importance splitting technique for rare event simulation has mostly been used to analyse queueing systems, and also high resilience systems with regular or flat failure dynamics.
Fault trees offer rich and structured ways to decompose system failures, but present several challenges to apply the standard splitting approach.
In this talk I'll describe my latest research with Marco Biagi (from the Università di Firenze) to identify and solve one of these challenges.

Disclaimer: this is ongoing research and the talk will be rather informal, but hopefully very insightful.
